Or HaLev
Jewish Mindfulness and Spirituality for Healing and Connection
Or Halev brings healing, joy, and meaningful connection through immersive Jewish mindfulness and spirituality programs. Rooted in Hasidut, particularly teachings of the Piaseczno Rebbe, it offers teacher training programs, public retreats, online courses, and—since October 7—dedicated retreat programs for Israeli therapists responding to trauma.
Small Group Models: Multiple Pathways to Connection
Or Halev is launching 12 small groups through three distinct models. Its “B’yachad” freelance program supports nine teachers from its two-year training program in establishing local groups. Additionally, it’s creating institutional groups in Boston and Brooklyn led by experienced teachers under the Or Halev brand, plus a DC synagogue group run by teachers in its advanced Keter training program.
Groups meet at least eight times during the grant period, with some meeting weekly and others setting their own schedules. Meetings occur in homes, cafes, synagogue spaces, and potentially online, accommodating 8-12 participants per group (4-6 considered a “seed”). The goal is inviting more people into “the journey”—integrating Jewish wisdom and mindfulness into daily life.

Jewish Wisdom Through Mindfulness Lens
Or Halev defines Jewish wisdom through outcomes—anything leading to greater depth, joy, freedom, insight, or meaningful connection. Drawing from Hasidut, Kabbalah, Torah, Talmud, and Tehillim, its balance meditation with Jewish content through weekly reflections, topical classes, and offerings aligned with the Jewish calendar.
A typical hour-long session includes 5-minute opening meditation, 10-minute check-ins, 15 minutes of Jewish text study through a “Jewish mindfulness lens,” structured relational practices like paired sharing, facilitated whole-group discussion emphasizing calm and respectful dialogue, 15-20 minute closing meditation (sometimes with chanting), and 5-7 minute checkout sharing.
Graduated Leadership Development
B’yachad leaders are graduates of Or Halev’s teacher training program who attend monthly group mentoring calls where participants teach and receive feedback from faculty and peers. Boston and DC teachers participate in the more intensive Keter program featuring week-long retreats, monthly meetings, and biweekly support.
All leaders commit to upholding Or Halev’s values and ethical principles, attending required meetings, conducting participant surveys, and meeting regularly with faculty for reports and guidance. The approach ensures leaders are well-prepared to create spaces of nonjudgmental listening and calm presence aligned with Jewish mindfulness values.
